Lifeguard Training
In this course you will learn the duties and responsibilities of a professional lifeguard. As a lifeguard your goal is to prevent emergencies and keep your patrons safe. If an emergency does occur, this course will teach you how to stay calm and respond appropriately. Course content and activities include decision making skills, interacting with the public, recognizing and responding to all types of emergencies, equipment based rescue skills, spinal injury management, responding to First Aid and cardiac emergencies, CPR, how to use an AED and more. This course reflects the latest ECC science and findings from the 2011 United States Lifeguard Standards Coalition Report. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification that is valid for 2 years.

Prerequisites:
- Minimum age of 15 years (proof of age should be brought to first class meeting)
- Swim 300 yards continuously: using these strokes front crawl using rhythmic breathing and stabilizing, propellant kick and breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick glide sequence.
- Swim and brick carry: swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to 7-13 feet, retrieve a 10 pound diving brick, return to the surface and swim back to the starting point, keeping the face above water and holding the brick with both hands back to the starting point, set the brick on the deck. and exit the water in under 1 min 40 sec. Please note that the pool depth may be up to 13 feet and participants must retrieve the 10 pound brick from this depth.
- Tread water for 2 minutes: using only the legs.
Certification Requirements
To successfully complete this course, you must:
- Attend and participate in all class sessions.
- Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
- Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.
- Pass both the Sections—CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer / First Aid and —Lifeguarding Skills final written exams with minimum grades of 80 percent.
- If certification requirements are not met no refunds will be given

This course is designed for students who hold a current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding. Proof of certification needs to be brought to the first class meeting. This review is a shortened version of the full length class. It is very important that you are comfortable with your rescue and CPR skills to be successful in this course. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification that is valid for 2 years.

Lifeguard Instructor
The purpose of the instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodbourne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules. Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue.
Prerequisites
You will be required to complete the precourse session of a 300 yard swim, brick carry, treading water as well as certain lifeguarding skill challenges on the first day of class.

- Be at least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course.
- Possess a current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Completing an online component 5 days prior to the first day of class. You will receive the necessary information after registration.
You will be required to complete the precourse session of a 300 yard swim, brick carry, treading water as well as certain lifeguarding skill challenges on the first day of class.

- Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
- Successfully complete class activities, including the four practice-teaching assignments.
- Score a minimum of 80 percent on all tests, self-study tests, exams and the final written exam.
The American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED instructor is valid for 2 years.

Waterfront Training Module
The purpose of the Waterfront Training module is to teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in non-surf, open-water areas found at public parks, resorts, summer camps and campgrounds. You must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification to take this module. This module teaches lifeguards to use a rescue board, perform shallow and deep water searches, beaches entries and other skills unique to waterfront facilities. Upon successful completion of the module, you will receive a Waterfront Training certification that is valid for 2 years. This certification is only valid when accompanied by an American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.

- Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence.

- Pass the Waterfront Lifeguarding Skills final written exam with minimum grade of 80 percent.

CPR/AED for Lifeguards, Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers Review
The purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers program is to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Students MUST bring a valid Red Cross CPR/AED for Lifeguards or Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider certificate to show instructor.

To successfully complete this course, you must:
The purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers program is to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Students MUST bring a valid Red Cross CPR/AED for Lifeguards or Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider certificate to show instructor.
